Dancers interested in auditioning should pre-register no later than... Dancers should be prepared to work on both flat and pointe.

Please arrive at the audition site 30 minutes prior to the audition time. Candidates will need to complete an application and submit a headshot.

Prepare a one- to two-minute solo routine in classical ballet. It can be a classical variation. Bring your own accompaniment on an iPod or CD. Please have music cued prior to your audition.

Alma Dance Youth Company gives talented 14–19-year-old ballet dancers in the Chicago area the chance to improve their classical training, technique, and artistry as they prepare for a professional career. The youth company prepares dancers for jobs in a variety of professional ballet companies, and the program aims to help ballet dancers learn the skills they need to be successful in company life. Dancers in the youth company will be able to work with professional artists during Alma Dance Theater's professional productions. Acceptance into the Alma Dance Youth Company is by invitation or audition only.

Be ready to talk about your past dance experience in a short interview with the directors after your solo.

• Dancers will commit to one, ADCdancers8:30 pm6:30 of regard year-round agreement. This contract will begin on August 19th, 2021, and finish on August 1st, 2022. 
• ADC members will have classes 6 days a week. In addition, Youth Company dancers will have rehearsals on Thursdays from 6:00-8:30 pm and Saturdays from 12:30-6:30 pm.
• Dancers will have 19.5 hours of training every week in addition to 8.5 hours of rehearsals per week.
• Dancers who are members of the Alma Dance Youth Company are expected to participate in our summer intensive program which will run from July, 6th 2020 through August 1st, 2020 (4 weeks)
• One of the wonderful aspects of the Youth Company is that all of its classes and rehearsals will run during afternoons and at night to provide our Youth Company members the flexibility to attend traditional school or explore homeschooling, depending on whichever is the best education solution for them. This aspect is unique in regard to other youth companies because many other programs are only able to work with homeschooled students. However, we recognize that there are many ways to receive a strong education and prepare for a professional dance career simultaneously.

Youth Company members will receive performance experience through participation in Alma Dance Theater’s annual performances of the Nutcracker and Simply Classic Series, as well as through outreach performances and in-studio presentations. The ADYC dancers will perform with our company dancers on the main stage and in their own studio and venue shows. Dancers will be able to learn from choreographers who are just starting out and perform a wide range of group and solo work.

Members of the ADYC will have a well-balanced schedule of classes and rehearsals that include classical ballet technique, pointe, variations, character/folklore dance, modern/contemporary, partnering, repertoire, and conditioning classes (to get stronger and more flexible). As part of the Alma Dance Youth Company, dancers will also get individual advice and training from the artistic directors for auditions and competitions.
